Mount Holyoke College Art Museum Talk and Tour
South Hadley & Granby Chamber of Commerce members were treated to an excellent talk and tour of the Mount Holyoke College (MHC) Art Museum by John R. Stomberg, Florence Finch Abbott Director of the Museum on February 12th. A reception featured some delicious hors d’oeuvres.
John is a very talented public speaker. He gave a brilliant and passionate talk highlighting the museum collection, its role in MHC student art education, and the fact that this high quality absolute gem of a Museum is free to the public!
The current main exhibit is Kara Walker:Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated). MHC President, Lynn Pasquerella, will give a talk related to the exhibit on April 4th, at 4:30pm in Gamble Auditorium.
With renewed interest in the Civil War highlighted by Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book,”Team of Rivals” and the recent movie, “Lincoln,” this exhibit explores the centrality of race in America and challenges the notion that slavery ended with the war.
