Visitor Info

South Hadley Town Of South Hadley is located in the heart of the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts on the east side of the beautiful Connecticut River, South Hadley is a town of rolling hills, beautiful vistas, friendly residential neighborhoods, and thriving businesses.

Although settlement began in 1725, it was not incorporated as a town with its own representative in General Government until 1755. Today our approximately 20,000 citizens have a representative Town Meeting. Please visit South Hadley’s Town Meeting Members web page to correspond with them.

South Hadley is the home of Mount Holyoke College, the oldest continuing institution of higher education for women in the country, many beautiful historic buildings and homes, the Firehouse Museum, Hadley Falls Canal Park, near the site of the first navigable canal in the United States, the Joseph Allen Skinner State Park, and other recreational areas. It is about a half hour drive from Springfield, only a few minutes drive from Northampton and Amherst, Massachsuetts, and within an easy drive of Boston, Hartford, Albany and New York City.

South Hadley split off from Hadley in 1753. At that time Granby was part of South Hadley. Granby split off from South Hadley in 1768. Granby is an agricultural and residential community of 6,200 people. Working farms, open spaces, and a traditional New England town center preserve the rural character of Granby. The Town Of Granby is conveniently located minutes away from the commercial and cultural offerings of the lower Pioneer Valley.
